In January 2012 Shay Murtagh Precast was awarded the contract by BAM Nuttall. This consisted of the manufacture and delivery of the precast concrete units and bridge beams required for Molesey Road under bridges (bridge components).
The project consisted of the replacement of the upside and downside decks of a railway bridge for which the following items were manufactured:
This was a skewed deck approximately 4.5m wide. The bridge beams were 800mm deep and varied in length from 10.7m to 11.7m.
Edge deck RC beam with parapet upstand weighing 44.5t.
2 inner RC deck beams weighing 34.5t.
2 cill beams with a maximum weight of 7t.
This was a skewed deck approximately 5.12m wide. The beams were 850mm deep and were approximately 12.7m long.
Edge deck RC beam with parapet upstand weighing 68.6t.
2 inner RC deck beams weighing 42.6t.
2 cill beams with a maximum weight of 6t.
2 no. 2.25m high by 2.75m long approach walls were also manufactured on this project and each weighed 6.5t.
A trial erection was conducted in house and inspected by BAM Nuttall Site Team and Network Rail representative after which it was disassembled and loaded on our trailers and delivered by our logistics team for installation on a rail possession during Easter.
We thank Emily and all the BAM Nuttall team for another successful rail project completion. We look forward to the next project.
