DESIGN

Shay Murtagh Precast are involved in projects from an early design stage.

With evolved, updated and sought-after technical manuals the Company is frequently approached during early development stages by many of its Customers, End Clients and Designers. With each project, Shay Murtagh Precast can provide value engineering solutions especially when projects may present challenges around installation, timescale or delivery.

Our structural design team, Structural Research liaise with the client and their consultants efficiently to determine exact design requirements. The team is not constrained to generic off the shelf designs and is capable of designing to unusual, project specific structural conditions and components. Substantial combined experience among the team in both bespoke precast design and bridge engineering enables the team to undertake the design of structures in their entirety when required.

The structural design team utilise and continuously develop sophisticated design aids in order to achieve such adaptability without compromising design speed. The team maintains a combination of flexibility, efficiency and reliability that is rarely found within the design divisions of structural manufacturers. Continuous improvement is a fundamental pillar of the company with dedicated teams specialising in 3D Tekla with full BIM capabilities.

Building Information Modelling

Structural Research offer a full BIM solution. 3D BIM models allow the designer to eliminate issues before manufacture and installation. BIM is a digital representation of physical and functional characteristics of a structure.

BIM is a shared knowledge resource for information about a structure forming a reliable basis for decisions during its life cycle – from earliest conception and design, through to construction and even demolition.

Innovation

The structural design team has combined experience with structural design in the United States, Spain and Portugal as well as the UK and Ireland. This exposure to a diverse scope of design approaches, standards, typical details and aesthetic features facilitates greater agility regarding innovative design.

Effectively delivering innovative design requires a rigorous grasp of structural first principles and the ability to operate in the absence of clear, simplified guidance from design standards. The structural design team’s experience in university level lecturing and research, coupled with detailed design fluency regarding unusual structural cross sections and support conditions positions it strongly in this regard.
