N6 Concession Ltd. – N6 Ballinasloe – Galway Motorway

The scheme involved the construction of approximately 56km of new dual carriageway, a 7 km link road to the Loughrea bypass, 32 km of side roads and five grade-separated junctions. The Scheme extended from Doughiska, east of Galway City to the existing N6 east of Ballinasloe in Co. Roscommon opened to traffic in 2010. Shay Murtagh Precast was awarded the manufacture of precast concrete products for this scheme. U bridge beams & slab configurations were used, ranging from U7, U8, U9, U10, U11 & U12. The U12 precast bridge beams were up to 36m long with a mass of 66 tonne. Box culverts, wing walls and header beams were also manufactured for this project and were manufactured to 1.0m wide x 1.5m high & 2.1 wide x 2.1m high profiles. For design purposes, it was assumed that the underlying strata for the box culverts had a minimum bearing capacity of 200kPa. Other bespoke items including caisson units were also specifically designed manufactured and delivered by Shay Murtagh Precast to this project.
