About Old Bridge Structure Rebuild in Andover Road
The old bridge structure which carried Andover Road over the railway line needed rebuilding to enable larger freight containers to be carried on the Railway. Upgrade works were carried out as part of the Southampton to Nuneaton freight upgrade scheme. Improvement works are being planned along this route to structures which are not currently large enough for high-cube containers to pass through.
Shay Murtagh Precast Ltd were selected by Main Contractor, Carillion Civil Engineering to supply

- bridge beams
- ground units
This heavily skewed bridge structure on a restricted site provided serious challenges for our design team.
