Shay Murtagh Precast, contracted by Main Contractor J Murphy & Sons to manufacture and deliver precast bridge beams and precast elements.
As part of the work to electrify the rail line between Manchester and Stalybridge which is part of the £400m project to electrify key sections of the rail way across the North West. Henrietta Street over rail bridge, Ashton –under-Lyne rebuilt to provide clearance for overhead lines.
The following precast elements required
- 11 number N2 approach parapet units varying in weight from 6.0t to 18.5t
- 4 number cill beam units varying in weight from 14.8t to 21.0t
- 2 number 21.550m long edge parapet beams with casting steel filler beams.
The East and West assemblies weighed 99.0t and 102.5t respectively. We worked closely with haulier JB Rawcliffe to deliver on schedule. J Murphy & Sons included the local school St Christopher's RC Primary School, who had been learning about the project during the year. The children designed safety posters to for use on the site. As part of the opening in January 2014, a time capsule filled with items from the children's lives in 2014 was built into the bridge.
