Birmingham City over the August Bank Holiday weekend Shay Murtagh Precast delivered into Main Contractors Carillion Plc. Carillion Plc carried out a complete reconstruction of St. Andrews Bridge, Coventry Road. The existing bridge a Victorian bridge under the junction of Coventry Road and Arthur Street needed demolishing and replacing with a modern concrete and steel structure.
The work carried out means that freight trains can carry foreign-style containers to the north of England from the continent – taking 50,000 trucks off the M6 every year. Shay Murtagh Precast received a contract from Carillion to manufacture and deliver this structure. With a complex design, our production and design teams worked methodically to manufacture precast elements in the form of concrete bridge beams of high quality and finish.
Trial erections, completed in house with both the Main Contractors and Network Rail in attendance. After dismantling of the structures, a total of 29 articulated trucks and trailers loading in order of erection for delivery. 16 precast concrete portals each 9.60m, 11 Cill Units and 12 Parapets delivered to the project . As this was a rail possession on a busy line it adhered to a strict timeframe for delivery. Shay Murtagh Precast logistics team worked closely with Carillion to bring the project in on schedule.
