Cill Beams for Hucknall Overbridge Nottinghamshire

Shay Murtagh contributed to the construction of Hucknall Overbridge.

Shay Murtagh Precast recently completed a project for AMCO Rail to design, manufacture and deliver a number of precast concrete cill beam units for the Hucknall Overbridge at Station Road reconstruction works in Hucknall, Nottinghamshire. The bridge was upgraded as part of Network Rail’s Railway Upgrade Plan to deliver reliable infrastructure to the British public.

Shay Murtagh manufactured a number of precast units, including:

  • 4 Cill Beam Units
  • 17 MY Beams 13M in length
  • 12 Parapets with bespoke brickwork facing

Station Road Bridge in Hucknall – a 140-year-old, 6 span structure – was reconstructed by AMCO as part of Network Rail’s upgrade initiative. The section of the bridge spanning the railway was demolished and replaced with a new deck, while 4 further spans were in-filled with concrete. The road surface was also replaced to accommodate the 9,000 vehicles a day that traverses the bridge.

Reconstruction of the vital transport link was a large undertaking with the bridge being closed for 4 months overall to allow gas, water and broadband supplies to be removed from the existing bridge and then embedded back into the new one. The bridge is now reopened to the public. We would like to congratulate AMCO Rail on another successful project completion and look forward to our next project together.
