Cill Beams for Upper Holloway Bridge North London

Shay Murtagh worked on the Upper Holloway Bridge throughout 2016

Over the Christmas and New Year period, Hochtief successfully completed the reconstruction of Upper Holloway Bridge in North London. The project is part of the electrification of the line between Gospel Oak and Barking and will result in an improved service with double the previous capacity.

Despite the strict timeframe, the installation team worked through the Christmas period to construct the bridge. The project was completed ahead of schedule and the road re-opened as planned on the 16th of January.

As part of the Project, Shay Murtagh Precast manufactured and delivered

  • 20 No. 10m long MY beam,
  • 6 No. 25t cill beams
  • 25 No. parapet and retaining walls.

Shay Murtagh Precast was originally contacted in Summer 2016 to assist in the development of the detailed design. The project was to manufacture and deliver for the following Christmas. The initial communication was consultation between Shay Murtagh Precast, Hochtief and their designers, Ramboll Parson Brinckerhoff, on precast options available. This led to assisting on the design process through to approval.

The early engagement on the project allowed for foresight and efficient scheduling of the manufacture of the precast concrete units. During our busy production phase in advance of the Christmas break. A full trial erection of the structure was carried out at our factory in Raharney in Ireland.

Shay Murtagh Precast would like to congratulate both the Hochtief, Transport for London and Network Rail teams on another successful project completion. We look forward to our next collaboration.
