One of these challenges was Shell – Corrib Gas Tunnel project. The tunnel was one of the largest contracts completed in Ireland over the last number of years alongside the fact that the completion of the 4.9km long tunnel is Ireland's longest tunnel to transport gas, which is from the Corrib Gas field under Sruwaddacon Bay to the terminal.
We were awarded the contract to manufacture the precast concrete tunnel segments. Tunneling began in December 2012 and our team completed the project in May 2014. In advance of manufacture testing of the rings was completed in Wuppertal University in Germany as consistency and quality were crucial as tolerances required were 0.5mm for the contract.
Just over 4,000 rings were manufactured, each one to correct specifications and delivered to Mayo. This is a project Shay Murtagh Precast are delighted to have partnered in with BAM/Wayss Feytagg and proud to have as part of our portfolio.
