We gave AIT Students a Tour of the Shay Murtagh Factory
Yesterday Shay Murtagh was delighted to welcome students from Athlone Institute of Technology for an in-depth tour of our state-of-the-art precast concrete design and manufacturing facility. The group of aspiring engineers and their tutors were given a behind-the-scenes look at the inner workings of Shay Murtagh Precast – from design right through to logistics. The tour, led by Tunnel Manager Donal McGovern gave the group an exciting and comprehensive view into the world of precast concrete. The group had the opportunity to witness up close the production process, including casting, pre-stressing, bespoke masonry and brickwork, laboratory testing, finishing and lifting.
Tutors Jim McNamara and Joe O’Toole were given a warm welcome not only by their guide but by several of their former graduates that they encountered on the factory floor during the tour. Undoubtedly we will be seeing these students again as they progress in their professional careers and we very much look forward to our next visit from the college.
