Templars Way Overbridge / Network Rail  J Murphy & Sons

Templars Way Rail Overbridge, reconstructed as part of a major Network Rail scheme to electrify the Midlands Mainline between Bedford and Sheffield. The new superstructure consisted of two 8.0m span Con-Arches designed and detailed to the Network Rails Con-Arch specification.

Shay Murtagh Precast were awarded the contract by J Murphy & Sons to precast all the Conarch units as follows:

  • Abutment and Pier Cill Beams and riser units for an overall deck width of 7.7m.
  • 10 no. 8m span internal conarch units.
  • 4 no. 8m span external conarch units slotted to receive the parapet edge beams.
  • H4A brick sandwich parapets cast integrally with the Parapet edge beams. The parapets were clad in the precast works with a brick finish as specified for conservation aesthetics with precast coping units.

A trial erection carried out in the precast yard prior to delivery as standard to ensure a smooth installation on site. The Clients inspected before disassembly.  This structure part of the seasonal Christmas rail possession. The bridge delivered and installed over three days during the Christmas holiday period.

Thank you to all the team in J Murphy & Sons, Network Rail and our logistics and transport teams for the delivery and execution of a great project.
