Dean Road Bridge / R.J McLeod

Shay Murtagh Precast were contracted by R.J McLeod to manufacture and deliver culverts to Dean Road Bridge. R.J McLeod Ltd. (Contractors) was awarded the contract to construct the bridge in May 2014. Following which, design and manufacture of the pre-cast elements of the bridge began with the complex site works starting in August.

The Dean Ford would flood on numerous occasions every year during periods of heavy rainfall, resulting in stranded vehicles, road closures and traffic diversions round the town centre. This £1.85m bridge project would ensure safe passage of vehicles and pedestrians, improving access not only to the town centre but to Dean Castle Country Park and the new Kilmarnock school campus.

Shay Murtagh Precast manufactured the precast concrete culverts 4.5m wide x 3.3m high. They were made on the skew and required specialist transportation due to their heights. Each unit incorporated a fish pass and silt catchers designed specifically for their new environment. The units had a 300mm wall thickness and weighed in at over 35 tonne.

Delivered to site on schedule as agreed with the onsite installation team, we congratulate the team at RJ McLeod on such a successful project completion and look forward to our next project together.
